National population census-2009 began in Kazakhstan

Astana, 26 February 2009, Khabar – The National Population Census has begun and 55 thousand census-takers, who were equipped with free season tickets, special scarves and certificates, started their work at 8 am. At a meeting of the government, the head of the statistics agency, Anar Meshimbayeva announced that all preparations have come to an end and the security plan has been developed. She said that all civil servants and members of the government will be questioned at work. Anar Meshimbayeva said that regional heads are to provide security for census-takers and other residents and uninterrupted operation of public transport. The publicity campaign will involve sportsmen, writers and public figures who will show the importance of this event to every Kazakhstan resident.

- People should understand that the population census is an important event and they should participate in it.

The day before, the head of state asked people to show civic responsibility and to help the census-takers.
