GOVERNMENT TO SPONSOR DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION ON DISASTER RISK REDUCTION

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Government of Mongolia will sponsor a documentary film competition on disaster risk reduction among filmmakers in the Asia-Pacific region. The decision was announced by Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin on January 24, during a preparatory meeting for the Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction-2018, which will be co-organized by the Government of Mongolia and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on July 16-19 this year. The Conference’s Board and working group in charge held a joint meeting in Ulaanbaatar. The competition’s prize fund is MNT 29 million, and the best two works will be awarded and screened during the Asian Ministerial Conference. The Deputy Prime Minister invited Asian artists to take the opportunity to visit the beautiful land of Mongolia. Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin also said, “As a result of human misconduct, global warming and climate change, global disaster risk and the entailing damage continues to increase, leaving negative impacts on the socio-economic development and livelihoods of countries around the world.” The 2nd Asian Ministerial Conference will be held under the theme ‘Preventing Disaster Risk: Protecting Sustainable Development’ within the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. “Let's work together to organize an honorable, hospitable, well-organized, safe and secure conference, promoting the heritage of Mongolia with a great importance on reducing regional and international disaster risk in about six months from now,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
