RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT LAB LAUNCHED AT VETERINARY INSTITUTE

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolia’s first Research and Development Laboratory was launched at the Institute of Veterinary yesterday. The laboratory was built with investment of MNT 2.4 billion from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and an automatic power reserve with cost of MNT 130 million was installed funded by JICA / AMED’s SATREPS project. “There are Special Inspection reference labs and meat laboratories but our lab is the only laboratory operating in a specialized field. Food security is becoming increasingly important problem at the global level, thus we are aiming to bring the food security to the world standart” noted B. Bayarsaikhan, Head of the Food Safety and Hygiene department of the Research and Development Laboratory. The foot-and-mouth disease vaccine can be produced and used in Mongolia in response to emergency outbreaks. "We have developed rapid diagnostic technology for veterinarians at the herder’s campsite that can diagnose without any special laboratory or special equipment” underlined B.Battsetseg, director of the Institute of Veterinary. According to her the laboratory is fully equipped and have the latest technology available at any of the testing laboratories in the world and it has 29 scientists and researchers who earned academic degrees both in Mongolia and abroad.
