Public talks exploring themes of the Trucial Scouts exhibition to be held in Al Ain

ABU DHABI, 1st March, 2018 (WAM) -- A public talk at UAE University on 7th March will explore the themes represented in The Trucial Scouts: Life and Times exhibition, which was unveiled at Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain on 1st November 2017, and will run until 28th April 2018.
The talk, Memoirs of a Soldier, will be led by the former scout Colonel David Nield on Wednesday next week following a book signing session for his memoir A Soldier in Arabia.
The talk is organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the Armed Forces Museum & Military History Centre.
Colonel Nield, born in 1938, was the youngest member of the Scouts when he joined and commanded the first Trucial Scouts rifle squadron to be based in Ras Al Khaimah where he formed a lasting friendship with the Ruler, His Highness Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. Colonel Nield moved to Ras Al Khaimah in 2013.
The exhibition celebrates the brigades’ humanitarian work and its active social role, which played a major part in the UAE’s history and heritage. The exhibition is one of the many events included in Al Ain’s annual cultural programme.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through a collection of artefacts on loan from the Armed Forces Museum & Military History Center in Abu Dhabi, all of which date back to the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s. With 32 artefacts from the scouts’ military lives, including the weapons they carried, their uniforms and utensils on display, these items bring to life the daily lives of the scouts as they stayed at Al Jahili Fort.
