SPRING IN TAIGA OF KHUVSGUL

Khuvsgul /MONTSAME/ One of the distinguishable characteristics of Khuvsgul aimag is its herd of reindeer, which is also considered as the sixth livestock there. As of today, 2230 reindeer in total are living in the east and west taiga of Tsagaannuur soum in Khuvsgul aimag. It is the prime birthing season for reindeers in Khuvsgul taiga. Thanks to warm weather, those new born reindeer calves are growing up fast. Herders milk female reindeer from four to five times per day and get 120-200 ml high-fat milk at each milking. For the first time reindeer herder of Tsagaannuur soum Ch.Batbayar was awarded the title of ‘State Best Reindeer Herder’, having counted his 150 reindeers in the end of 2017. People say that ‘State Best Reindeer Herder’ award was a historical decision to support reindeer herders. E.Altanzul
