S. Korean elected member of Int'l Hydrographic Org.

SEOUL, March 12 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean professor has been elected as a member of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), the government said Thursday.

The Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs Ministry said Prof. Sung Hyun-ho of Ewha
Womans University in Seoul has been elected as member of the IHO's Guiding
Committee for the General Bathymetric Chart of Oceans (GEBCO).
The committee guides the GEBCO project, which measures the depth of ocean
floors, and makes recommendations to two parent organizations on policies for
the preparation and dissemination of related materials.
Sung is the first South Korean to be elected to the committee.
