President Jeenbekov meets with UN Secretary-General Guterres

Bishkek, Sept. 25, 2018. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA on September 24, the press service of the Kyrgyz President's Office reported.
Before the beginning of the meeting, the country leader signed the UN Book with the best wishes for the organization.
The UN Secretary-General warmly greeted Sooronbay Jeenbekov and noted that he was in Kyrgyzstan at different times, witnessed how the country was going through difficult moments, now democracy is flourishing in Kyrgyzstan.
Jeenbekov thanked Guterres for finding time for the meeting despite the tight schedule, on the days when the UN General Assembly was taking place with the participation of country leaders from 82 states and heads of government from 45 countries.
The country leader reminded about the conversation with him in Osh during the visit of Antonio Guterres to Kyrgyzstan in June 2017 and noted that these contacts are an indicator of the high level of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN.
"We value these relations. In 2017, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the country's membership in the UN. I am confident that these dynamics will be further enhanced. Our international partners and you personally helped Kyrgyzstan in a difficult time for us in 2010. You provided invaluable assistance in improving the electoral system in 2017, during the presidential elections. All the projects that are support by the UN in Kyrgyzstan are successfully developing, which, once again, proves your special attitude to our country”, Jeenbekov stressed.
The country leader highlighted the current UNDP projects within the framework of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework to the Kyrgyz Republic (UNDAF) for 2018-2022, compliant with the Decree of the Kyrgyz President on the Development of Regions.
He recalled the initiative of Kyrgyzstan to update the UNGA Resolution on the Role of the International Community in Preventing Radiation Threat in Central Asia in order to enter a new stage of actions to reclaim uranium tailings.
In conclusion, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic thanked the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for the meeting and warm conversation.
