Yonhap News Agency-new president
SEOUL, March 27 (Yonhap) -- Yonhap News Agency on Friday elected Park Jung-chan, managing director in charge of media affairs, as its new president and chief executive officer.
The election of the 55-year-old Park to the top post of South Korea's key news
agency was approved by the company's board in a meeting at its headquarters in
downtown Seoul.
Park will have a three-year tenure.
A native of Namhae of South Gyeongsang Province, Park graduated from Korea
University's Political Science and Diplomacy Department before joining Hapdong
News Agency in 1978. Hapdong was merged with Orient Press in 1980 and launched
as Yonhap News Agency.
At Yonhap, Park has served as political news editor, Washington correspondent,
managing editor and chief planning officer. He also served as secretary general
of the Kwanhun Club, one of the nation's most respected association of
journalists.
Yonhap News also named Kim Sung-soo, chief of its Washington bureau, as managing
director in charge of editorial operations; Sung Ki-joon, chief editorial writer,
as managing director in charge of planning and general affairs; and Kim
Chang-hoe, head of information business department, as managing director in
charge of international affairs.
