Melaka Food Tourism Subsector Has Potential To Be Further Developed
MELAKA, April 3 (Bernama) -- The food tourism subsector, especially the food synonymous with Melaka, has the potential to be further developed to attract visitors to the state.
Melaka Tourism, Heritage and Culture executive councillor Muhamad Jailani Khamis said dishes such as fish head curry and ‘Udang Galah Masak Lemak Cili Padi’ (freshwater prawn in spicy coconut gravy), have their own uniqueness and potential to attract those who like to try something new.
Apart from that, traditional dishes of other communities in the state also have potential to be promoted, he said after attending the ceremony to fete the 'Worldchef Battlefield 2019-Battle of the Masters' delegates at the Hang Tuah Village here Wednesday.
The delegates comprised over 70 local and foreign chefs including from China, India, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Muhamad Jailani said the committee was also planning to hold ‘Asam Pedas’ cooking competition as part of the activities in conjunction with the Visit Melaka Year 2019.
Last year Melaka recorded over 17 million visitor arrivals and had set a target of 20 million tourist arrivals this year.
