Bahrain, UN close cooperation stressed

New York, Apr. 7 (BNA): Bahrain's Permanent Mission to the United Nations has received a number of officials from the US Army War College, within the framework of their visit to the United Nations.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Al Rowaiei welcomed the guests, stressing the close cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UN. He also noted the importance of enhancing the efforts of UN specialised agencies and bodies to build the capacity of Member States to implement legislation against terrorism and illicit arms trafficking.
An interactive discussion was also held between the guests and a number of UN officials, including the Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate, Michèle Coninsx, and the Deputy to the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Thomas Markram.
Coninsx discussed the role of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate and how it helps States to build capacity to combat incitement to commit terrorist acts, as well as supporting international cooperation and border control. She also noted that in September 2014, in response to an unprecedented influx of foreign terrorist fighters, the Security Council adopted Resolution 2178/2014 that stipulates that Member States shall prevent the recruiting, facilitating or equipping of individuals who travel to a State other than their States of residence or nationality to carry out or prepare for terrorist acts or training and the financing of such activities.
Markram praised the UN efforts in helping States combat illicit arms trafficking and stressed the importance of complying with the international instruments for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones in support of efforts to achieve regional and international stability.
