Seoul stocks up 1.86 pct in late morning

SEOUL, March 31 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 1.86 percent higher late Tuesday morning, boosted by an auto sector rally, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 22.32 points to
1,219.78 as of 11:20 a.m.
"Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors led the market gains as they are expected to
benefit from the troubled U.S. auto industry," said Lee Joon-whan, an analyst at
Hanwha Securities.
Hyundai Motor surged 6.6 percent to 56,500 won (US$41) as of 11:20 a.m., with its
affiliate Kia Motors advancing 5.22 percent to 8,470 won.
The local currency was trading at 1,394.05 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20
a.m., down 4.05 won from Monday's close.
