Seoul stocks start higher on U.S. advances
SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened higher Wednesday as investor sentiment got a boost from overnight Wall Street gains, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) increased 4.81 points, or
0.4 percent, to 1,211.07 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Financial shares led the gain, helped by solid retail purchasing.
U.S. stocks rallied Tuesday, ending two sessions of heavy losses, as investors
went bargain-hunting. The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 1.16 percent to
7,608.92 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 1.78 percent to 1,528.59.
The local currency was trading at 1,379.5 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 2.5 won from Tuesday's close.
