Kia to sell 40,000 revamped Sorento SUV units in 2009

GOYANG, South Korea, April 2 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's
second-largest automaker, said Thursday it aims to sell 40,000 units of its
revamped Sorento sports-utility vehicles this year, despite sluggish demand.

Kia, a unit of Hyundai Motor Co., also plans to sell 140,000 units of the
redesigned Sorento next year, including 110,000 in overseas sales, a company
executive said.
"We aim to make the (revamped) Sorento R Kia's best-selling SUV brand," said Seo
Young-jong, president of Kia on the sidelines of the 2009 Seoul Motor Show.
Kia plans to export the redesigned Sorento, equipped with a 2.2-liter diesel
engine, to the U.S. market next year, Seo said.
Last month, Kia's auto sales declined 7.9 percent to 111,542 units due to weak
overseas demand, the company said earlier.
