Pledging hard work, new Greek Cabinet sworn in

Greece’s new Cabinet was sworn in on Tuesday after New Democracy’s strong win in Sunday’s elections. In a ceremony at the Presidential Palace, the 51 new ministers -- including five women -- promised to bring the change Greeks are seeking to the economy and work hard to perform their duties. Sworn in by Athens Archbishop Leronymos, the new Cabinet is made up of politicians who have served in previous governments with considerable experience as well as technocrats considered experts in their fields. The new Cabinet is scheduled to have its first meeting at 11 a.m. local time (0800GMT) on Wednesday. Major figures in the new Cabinet include: Finance Minister: Christos Staikouras Development and Investments Minister: Spyridon-Adonis Georgiadis Foreign Minister: Nikos Dendias Citizen Protection Minister: Michalis Chrisochoidis Alternate Minister for migration policy: Giorgos Koumoutsakos Defense Minister: Nikos Panagiotopoulos Education and Religious Affairs Minister: Niki Kerameus Labor and Social Welfare Minister: Giannis Vroutsis Health Minister: Vasilis Kikilias Environment and Energy Minister: Kostis Chatzidakis Culture and Sports Minister: Lina Mendoni Justice Minister: Kostas Tsiaras Interior Minister: Panagiotis Theodorikakos Infrastructure and Transport Minister: Kostas Achillea Karamanlis Agricultural Development and Food Minister: Makis Voridis Tourism Minister: Charis Theocharis
