Seoul shares open higher despite N. Korea's rocket launch
SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger on Monday despite North Korea's rocket launch a day earlier, as the market already factored in the impact of the launch, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 12.15 points, or
0.95 percent, to 1,295.9 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
On Sunday, North Korea launched a long-range rocket in defiance of repeated
international warnings. South Korea and the United States say the launch failed
to orbit a satellite as the North claimed.
The local currency was trading at 1,322 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 18.5 won from Friday's close.
