Saudi Press hails Saudi Arabia's key role in G-20 Summit in
Commenting on the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the Jeddah-based
Al-Madina said 64 years ago the US acquired the first nuclear weapons
and it still acquires the biggest nuclear arsenal, estimated at more
than 10, 200 nuclear heads.
"So when Obama calls for a world free from nuclear weapons, it shows
that Washington feels a moral obligation in this respect".
"The acquisition of a country of nuclear weapons justifies and
encourages other countries to opt for acquiring such an arsenal
without paying any heed to its cost," the daily said.
Pointing to the Iranian nuclear program, the daily said "Why there
is such a fuss and a row about this issue while the world does utter
a single word about the dangerous possession of Israel's huge nuclear
arsenal. "Moreover, the world has maintained a complete silence when
Pakistan and India acquired nuclear weapons. At the same time, the
world is denying the right of Iran to acquire similar weapons".
"Such questions may be reasonable and logical but they may lead to
proliferation of nuclear weapons in a manner that may not be put them
under control unless the international community becomes ready to get
rid of all nuclear weapons without exclusion of any country".
"This might be the real cause behind Obama's call and desire to make
this world, completely free from nuclear weapons," it added.
