Creditors mull injecting 700 bln won into Hynix

SEOUL, April 9 (Yonhap) -- Creditor banks were considering injecting about 700 billion won (US$517.8 million) into Hynix Semiconductor Inc. via a rights offering, a source said Thursday.

Hynix, the world's second-largest maker of computer memory chips, is grappling
with sagging demand and falling chip prices amid the global economic downturn. In
January, creditors of Hynix provided 800 billion won to the ailing chipmaker in
financial assistance.
Hynix was also considering raising up to 600 billion won by selling its assets,
the source said on condition of anonymity.
In the middle of this month, creditors will hold a meeting to decide on details
of the fresh financial aid, the source said.
In the final quarter of 2008, Hynix posted a net loss of 1.33 trillion won,
marking its fifth straight quarterly loss.
