KOGAS set to bring natural gas from Russia

SEOUL, April 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's state-run Korea Gas Corp. (KOGAS) said
Thursday it will bring Russian natural gas into the country for the first time
starting this weekend.
As part of efforts to diversify sources for energy imports, KOGAS signed a deal
in July 2005 to purchase an annual 1.5 million tons of natural gas for 20 years
with Sakhalin Energy Co., the operator of the Sakhalin II Project, one of the
biggest oil and gas developments in the world.
Russian imports of natural gas are expected to help stabilize South Korea's fuel
supply from the Middle East and Southeast Asia, KOGAS said.
