SK Chemicals develops cutting-edge plastic
SEOUL, April 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's SK Chemicals Co. said Thursday that it
has developed a cutting-edge plastic product which it plans to put into
commercial production next year.
The plastic, called ploy phenylene sulfide (PPS), is used in parts of vehicles
and electronics.
Global demand for the plastic amounted to 57,000 tons worth US$456 million in
2007 and is growing by over 15 percent year-on-year, SK Chemicals said.
Seven companies including U.S. Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. and Japan's Toray
Industries Inc. are competing in the PPS global market, the company said.
