Seoul stocks start stronger on Wall Street gains
SEOUL, April 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start Friday
as investor sentiment got a boost from overnight Wall Street gains, analysts
said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 33.77 points, or
2.57 percent, to 1,350.12 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. shares surged to a two-month high Thursday after banking giant Wells Fargo
reported higher-than-expected profits for the first quarter. The Dow Jones
industrial average soared 3.14 percent, to 8,083.38 with the tech-heavy Nasdaq
jumping 3.89 percent to 1,652.54.
The local currency was trading at 1,303.5 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 19 won from Thursday's close.
