Samsung mobile phones snag top spot in Europe

SEOUL, April 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Samsung Electronics Inc. captured top
positions in popularity rankings for Europe's mobile phone market this week
thanks to aggressive sales efforts, a global consumer research firm said Friday.
GFK market research group said in a report that the world's second-largest
handset maker topped the list of the most popular mobile phones in Britain,
France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and Russia.
Samsung's F480 model is expected to set a record in Switzerland, where it has
been at the top position for the last 26 weeks, while five other models made the
top 10 product list among mobile phones sold in France.
The South Korean company holds about a 30 percent market share in Russia, Italy
and the Netherlands, according to the report.
Samsung Electronics has been increasing its market presence in the European
countries by targeting the premium phone category, including full touchscreen
phones.
