Ex-president's son to appear for questioning in bribery probe

SEOUL, April 11 (Yonhap) -- The son of former President Roh Moo-hyun will appear for questioning by prosecutors early next week in a widening bribery investigation, investigators said Saturday.

Prosecution officials said the ex-president's only son, Roh Geon-ho, has agreed
to return from the U.S. on Monday to answer questions whether he was linked to
Park Yeon-cha, a businessman at the center of the scandal.
A national lawmaker and two former provincial government officials, all
supporters of the ex-president, have been arrested on charges of receiving large
amounts of cash in illegal funds from the businessman currently under arrest.
Under pressure last week, the former president who stepped down in early 2003 at
the end of a five-year term, publicly acknowledged that his wife, not himself,
had received an unspecified amount of money from the businessman whose business
includes making Nike shoes.
Local media, quoting prosecution sources, said the businessman had confessed to
delivered a bag containing $1 million in U.S. currency to the Roh family while
the president was in office.
Roh's son is suspected of being linked to $5 million in U.S. currency, which was
transferred from the businessman's Hong Kong bank account to one of his in-laws a
few months before the president stepped down.
"When the junior Roh arrives at an airport tomorrow, he would be sent to the
Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office if his attorney agrees," the chief prosecution
investigator, Hong Man-pyo, said.
Roh's son currently works at the U.S. subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc.
