S. Koreans warned against traveling to Thai resort
SEOUL, April 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korean travelers were advised Saturday to stay away from the Thai resort of Pattaya after a scheduled summit of Asian leaders there was canceled due to political unrest.
The Thai government declared a state of emergency in Pattaya and its surrounding
area after thousands of anti-government protesters barged into the summit venue.
"As political unrest spreads there, we urge people to refrain from visiting
Pattaya," said an official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. "We are
urging our related agencies, Korean travelers and businessmen in the region to be
cautious about possible dangers."
Pattaya is a favorite destination for South Korean tourists.
