S. Korea seeks extradition of late actress' manager from Japan
SEONGNAM, South Korea, April 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has formally asked Japan
to extradite a South Korean entertainment company executive wanted for his
alleged role in the sexual harassment of the late TV actress Jang Ja-yeon, police
said Monday.
The 40-year-old executive, identified only by his family name Kim, is accused of
threatening and coercing Jang, who killed herself in early March, into offering
sexual favors to influential industry and media figures. Kim, now in Japan, has
repeatedly defied summons by authorities in Bundang, south of Seoul, where Jang
lived and her body was discovered.
The Bundang Police Station said it began extradition proceedings against Kim
after acquiring an arrest warrant on April 3.
It noted that the written request for the extradition of Kim was delivered to
Japan's Justice Ministry and that the suspect is expected to be sent back to
South Korea after the Japanese court issues a warrant and orders his deportation.
