Seoul shares begin lower on correction woes
SEOUL, April 14 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started slightly lower Tuesday as investors were cautious about a sharp gain in the last five weeks.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 5.66 points, or 0.42
percent, to 1,332.6 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
With institutions being net sellers, blue chips fell across the board, with auto
and tech shares leading the overall decline. Financial issues, however, gained
substantially on optimism that the sector's profit decline would not be larger
than expected.
The South Korean currency was trading at 1322.45 won to the U.S. dollar as of
9:15 a.m., up 6.55 won from Monday's close.
