Three arrested on charges of growing, smoking marijuana

SEOUL, April 14 (Yonhap) -- Three men have been arrested on charges of growing
marijuana at a local residence, police said Tuesday.
The suspects, whose names have been withheld, are accused of having cultivated
marijuana plants at one of their homes on the outskirts of Seoul since September
last year, according to police. They are also suspected of smoking the illegal
drug, police said.
The crops have an estimated street value of 170 million won (US$128,000) if sold,
police added.
Police said the suspects purchased hemp seeds through an Internet Web site and
had them delivered via international mail. They found information on planting
cannabis from an Internet blog, police said.
They allegedly sold marijuana to college students.
Under South Korean law, marijuana users or growers can be sentenced to a maximum
of five years in prison or fined up to 50 million won (US$32,000).
