Ex-president's son summoned again over corruption probe

SEOUL, April 14 (Yonhap) -- The only son of former President Roh Moo-hyun
appeared before prosecutors again on Tuesday over his alleged involvement in an
unfolding bribery scandal centered around a financial supporter of the former
president.
Roh Gun-ho, 36, an employee of LG Electronics on temporary leave to study in the
U.S., returned home on Saturday and was questioned by prosecutors on Sunday. The
prosecution is looking into his connections with Park Yeon-cha, the CEO of a
local shoe-making company, who allegedly offered billions of won in bribes to
political heavyweights, including the former first family.
The former president, who stepped down in early 2008 at the end of a five-year
term, publicly acknowledged that his wife, not himself, had received an
unspecified amount of money from Park, whose business included subcontracting
production of Nike shoes.
According to investigators, testimonies by Park suggest that some of the money he
allegedly gave to the Roh family may have been used to cover living expenses by
the son while studying in the U.S.
Investigators also said they found evidence that the junior Roh is a shareholder
of an offshore company that Park is known to have indirectly invested in.
