President Lee says signs positive for economic recovery
SEOUL, April 14 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak Tuesday said the country was
beginning to see some "positive" signs of an economic recovery though it was too
early to say if the economy was rebounding.
"We cannot yet definitely say our economy is recovering, but we are beginning to
see some positive signs," the president was quoted as saying in a Cabinet
meeting.
The remarks come after the country's central bank, the Bank of Korea, last week
said the country's economy may start to recover, though very slowly, in the
fourth quarter.
Lee earlier said the country will be one of the first in the world to overcome
the global economic and financial crisis.
The president called for efforts to help speed up the recovery process.
"This is when the government must think of ways to increase the efficiency of the
country's energy use," he told the Cabinet meeting, according to his spokesman
Lee Dong-kwan.
The president also called for efforts to promote what the government calls an
environment-friendly way of eating, noting the country's traditional food culture
often leads to waste.
