Seoul stocks open higher on U.S. gains
SEOUL, April 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start Thursday, taking a cue from overnight Wall Street gains, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 32.09 points, or
2.41 percent, to 1,365.18 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. shares gained ground on Wednesday, after the Federal Reserve released a
report showing an economic slide could be slowing. The Dow Jones industrial
average climbed 1.38 percent, to 8,029.62 with the tech-heavy Nasdaq rising 0.07
percent to 1,626.80.
The local currency was trading at 1,321 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 17 won from Wednesday's close.
