Seoul shares up 2.14 pct in late morning

SEOUL, April 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 2.14 percent higher late Thursday morning as investor sentiment was lifted by overnight gains in U.S. markets, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 28.47 points to
1,361.56 as of 11:20 a.m.
Large-cap tech and financial shares traded in positive territory, with market
leader Samsung Electronics rising 0.68 percent and KB Financial Group, holding
company of leading lender Kookmin Bank, gaining 1.60 percent.
U.S. shares gained ground on Wednesday with the Dow Jones industrial average
climbing 1.38 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq rising 0.07 percent.
The Korean currency was trading at 1,324.75 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20
a.m., up 13.25 won from Wednesday's close.
