Int'l passenger ships see plunge in travelers amid economic slowdown
SEOUL, April 16 (Yonhap) -- The number of international passenger ship users heading into and out of South Korea plunged more than 20 percent in the first quarter as a protracted economic slowdown led to a decline in travel, a government report showed Thursday.
According to the report by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs,
the number of travelers using international passenger ships totaled 500,549 in
the January-March period, down 20.1 percent from a year earlier.
The decline was attributed to a protracted economic downturn which discouraged
people from taking overseas trips. South Korea's economy is feared to lapse into
the first recession in more than a decade, affected by a global slowdown.
