LG Display swings to net loss in Q1

SEOUL, April 16 (Yonhap) -- LG Display Co., the world's second-largest maker of
liquid-crystal displays, said Thursday it swung to a net loss in the first
quarter of this year, hit by a continued drop in prices amid the global economic
downturn.
LG Display posted a net loss of 255 billion won (US$192 million) in the
January-March period, compared with a profit of 717 billion won for the same
period a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.
First-quarter sales declined 9.2 percent to 3.67 trillion won.
LG Display, however, saw its net loss narrow from the previous quarter,
supporting views that a turnaround in the LCD industry may be possible this year.
The company posted a net loss of a record 684 billion won in the fourth-quarter
of last year.
