S. Korea's health watchdog lifts sales ban on 24 medical products

SEOUL, April 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's health authorities said Friday that they have lifted a sales ban on 24 medical products subject to a recent recall order sparked by fears over asbestos contamination.

The move was made as the products in question were proven not to contain
asbestos-contaminated material or their sales period had already expired, the
Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) said in a statement.
The move comes after the KFDA banned the sale of 1,122 medicine products and
ordered their recall last week as they are suspected to be contaminated with
asbestos. A total of 120 drug makers are subject to the regulatory measure.
Fears are spreading about asbestos after some baby powders and cosmetic products
were recently found to have been tainted with asbestos, which can cause lung
cancer if inhaled.
An updated list of products subject to sales suspension and recall will be posted
in its official Web site, according to the KFDA.
