10 Korean artists to be introduced at Czech art festival

SEOUL, April 20 (Yonhap) -- Paintings by 10 South Korean artists will be
highlighted at a separate section in the upcoming Prague Biennale, South Korea's
top art organizer, Rhee Won-il, said Monday.
"This will serve as an opportunity to promote the fine quality of Korean
contemporary art throughout Europe," Rhee told a press gathering in Seoul Monday.
"We are also hoping to maximize the commercial outcome."
Rhee will be curating the "Painting in Korea" section of the event, which will
run from May 14 through July 26 in the Czech capital. Chosen artists include Ha
Jong-hyun, Ha Bong-ho, Ham Kyung-ah, Jung Yeon-doo, Kang Un, Kim Ki-ra, Lee
Kwang-ho, Lee Gil-woo, Moon Sung-sic and Rhee Ki-bong.
The upcoming Prague Biennale, organized by "Flash Art," one of Europe's largest
art magazines, and sponsored by the city of Prague, will focus on developments in
painting around the globe since the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago. It will
also feature surveys of emerging painters from Germany, Poland, Romania, Italy,
China and nations affected by the 2004 tsunami -- Indonesia, the Philippines,
Malaysia and Singapore.
The event, celebrating its fourth edition this year, will be directed by Helena
Kontova and Giancarlo Politi.
