COVID-19: Malaysian Government Responded Promptly, Says Ambassador Of Tajikistan

By R.Ravichandran KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- The Government of Malaysia has promptly responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by putting in place measures to contain the outbreak, said the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Malaysia, Ardasher Qodiri. He said it should also be noted that the Malaysian authorities are constantly taking all the necessary measures to alleviate the difficulties of foreign citizens, including Tajiks, during the outbreak. "We are witnessing unprecedented state assistance to citizens in various spheres and outstanding support for small and medium-sized businesses, which is very necessary during this situation," the ambassador said in a reply to Bernama. Qodiri said Tajik citizens in Malaysia have been advised to adhere to all the recommendations and requirements of the Government of Malaysia in its efforts to contain COVID-19 in the country. "It should also be noted that Tajik citizens applied for being volunteers during MCO to assist front liners,” he further said. Qodiri said due to the uncertain situation in the world and unavailability of direct flights, Tajik citizens unable to return home have been advised to stay for the time being. "The Embassy made all arrangements for them. The Embassy has a 24-hour hotline to be in constant touch with citizens. Also, we have booked accommodation for any urgent cases. Fortunately, all of the Tajik citizens have accommodation and friends to stay with," he said. Qodiri said there are about 70 Tajik students in Malaysia and all of them are studying online from home. There are also five Tajik tourists who are still unable to leave due to various travel restrictions, he said. -- BERNAMA
