STX Europe wins 400 mln euro deal to build helicopter carrier
SEOUL, April 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's STX Group said Tuesday its European
unit has won a deal to build a helicopter carrier for 400 million euros (US$517
million).
Under the deal with the French government, STX France Cruise SA, STX Europe's
French shipyard, will deliver the carrier by 2012.
STX Europe ASA, formerly known as Aker Yards ASA, is Europe's biggest
shipbuilder, specializing in cruise ships and offshore vessels. STX Group took
over the shipbuilder in 2007.
Late last year, the French government bought a 33.34-percent stake in STX
Europe's French shipyard for 110 million euros, saying its national interests
were at stake.
Meanwhile, STX Europe last week won a 750 million Norwegian crown ($110 million)
order for three icebreaker tug vessels from Kazakhstan ship owner JSC Circle
Marine Invest.
Shares of STX were trading at 31,500 won on the Seoul bourse as of 2:00 p.m., up
7.46 percent.
