Malaysian Embassy In Bangkok Sends Tiffin Raya To Spread Joy Of Eid
BANGKOK, May 31 (Bernama) -- The Hari Raya (Eid al-Fitr) Open House hosted by the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand is much-awaited by the Malaysian diaspora and students who are unable to return home.
The annual Raya Open House provides an opportunity for Malaysians abroad to enjoy the special Raya traditional dishes and nurture a closer bond with fellow Malaysians.
However, this year the celebration was cancelled in compliance with the Thai government’s restrictions on public gatherings in efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19 in the kingdom.
The Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand initiated ‘Tiffin Raya’ by sending Raya delicacies in colourful tiffin carriers to spread the joy of the festival among Malaysians here.
The tiffin carriers were delivered to 35 fellow Malaysians on Friday.
Deputy chief of mission at the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, Suzilah Mohd Sidek said the embassy decided to share the Raya delicacies with Malaysian community leaders, active community members as well as Malaysians in various sectors.
“Staff at the embassy joined hands in preparing the dishes – ‘nasi impit’, ‘kuah kacang’ and chicken rendang,” she told Bernama.
Malaysia-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) chairman Dr Hwee Khim Boo who received the tiffin carriers posted on the Embassy of Malaysia, Bangkok’s Facebook page “Thank you Datuk Jojie Samuel (Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand) and all the chefs! We are lucky Malaysians”.
Aishah Adam posted, “from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much Embassy of Malaysia, Bangkok… so happy for the wonderful Tiffin Raya…for making us feel like being at home”.
Joanne Chung posted “we are definitely very happy Malaysians to receive this wonderful ‘mangkuk bertingkat (tiffin carriers)’ with the delicious Hari Raya goodies”.
Thailand declared a state of emergency from March 26 to April 30 and extended it to May 31 and June 30 to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Thai government began its first phase of relaxation on May 3 while the second phase started on May 17 and third phase starts Suday to further ease restrictions and measures including reopening more businesses and venues.
