Penang Launches Malaysia's First Creative Economy e-Commerce Live Streaming Event

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia) Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Penang Tuesday launched Malaysia's first Creative Economy E-Commerce live streaming event known as The Journey of Art: A Shelter for Artists, in a bid to support the creative industries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee (PETACE) chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Penang was the first state to create a "Creative Economy" executive councillor (exco) portfolio, which has then nurtured and developed the sector proactively through a series of programmes. "The Journey of Art is another step forward by the Penang government to boost the creative economy sector and revive the industry from the financial difficulties caused by the pandemic," he told a press conference here, today. He said The Journey of Art is sponsored by Quinton Group, an award-winning Internet platform which seeks to empower local artists by providing them with a platform to facilitate this transition, while the Penang House of Music is the venue sponsor. Meanwhile, Quinton Group International Business Development director Jason Lim expects the digital event, to be held from Dec 12 to Jan 3, 2021, to boost the growth of Penang's creative economy sector. "Each week, we will feature a specific theme, starting from handicraft, followed by painting, performance and Made in George Town, which allows us to accommodate more artists and benefit more local creative talents," he said. Artists who are interested to register can do so at https://tinyurl.com/TheJourneyofArt on the Penang Art District Facebook, contact the Penang Art District at 04-261 6161 or email to info@penangartdistrict.com. -- BERNAMA
