Ex-Persebaya Surabaya Captain Konate Completes Malaysia’s Club TFC’s Import Quota

KUALA TERENGGANU (Terengganu, Malaysia), Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Super League club Terengganu FC (TFC) on Wednesday completed their quota of five import players by signing up former captain of Persebaya Surabaya, Makan Konate. In a statement here, TFC said the player, who hails from Mali, joined the team on a one-year contract to help The Turtles in their 2021 campaign. “Konate is no stranger to football fans in Terengganu as he made his debut in Malaysia with the state's T-Team from 2016-2017 and now he is very happy and excited to be back. “This time Konate will be together with David da Silva who was his teammate at Persebaya. The pair are expected to lead the main eleven of TFC,” the statement said. TFC said Konate will again don the No 10 jersey which is very close to his heart in view of him being born on the tenth. The 1.7-metre tall attacking midfielder played in the Indonesian League 1 from 2018 -2019 where he scored 29 goals in 51 appearances but his journey there was cut short after just a few matches in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides Konate and da Silva, the three other import players hired by TFC are former Thailand League 1 side Chonburi FC player Carli de Murga; Christopher Herd from English Premier League club Aston Villa and Petrus Shitembi from Namibia, who played for Super League side Sabah previously. Terengganu is an east coast state in Malaysia, while Sabah is an east Malaysian state. -- BERNAMA
