Assistant Village Head Shot Dead In Yala

YALA (South Thailand), Feb 16 (Bernama) -- An assistant village head, who was on his way home with a friend, was shot dead at close range by an unidentified man at Bannang Sata, here, Monday. Bannang Sata Criminal Investigation Department assistant police chief Captain Wirasak Wowandecha said the 12.30 pm (local time) shooting happened when the 47-year-old victim was riding his motorcycle, with his friend riding pillion, from the Bannang Sata town to return to his home at Kampung Bannang Kuwae. “The assailant, who was also on a motorcycle, shot the victim at close range. The victim, who was shot twice in the head, died at the scene while his 24-year-old friend was injured and taken to hospital,” he said when contacted here Monday. A firearm belonging to the victim was also stolen by the suspect, he said, adding that police are investigating the motive behind the incident. -- BERNAMA
