Makassar Church Explosion Linked To Terror Group

By Mohd Shukri Ishak JAKARTA, March 29 (Bernama) -- A married couple identified as having been involved in a suicide bombing outside a church in Makkasar in South Sulawesi on Sunday were confirmed as members of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) terrorist group. National Police spokesman Argo Yuwono said preliminary investigations revealed that the couple married six months ago. "The male suspect is known as ‘L’, while the female suspect, ‘YSF’, is a private sector employee. Police are still investigating other suspects who were also involved in the planning of the incident," said Argo in a news conference via webinar, in Jakarta. The JAD is a terrorist group in Indonesia that has been involved in several incidents of terrorism in Indonesia since 2004. The group is also linked to terrorist activities in Iraq and Syria. In yesterday morning's incident, two suspects riding a motorcycle blew themselves up outside the church in Makassar, killing both of them, as well as injuring 19 civilians. Meanwhile, local media reported that four more suspects from the group were arrested in South Sulawesi in a large-scale operation by the Indonesian police to hunt down the group's members. -- BERNAMA
