India’s Capital Imposes Night Curfew as COVID-19 Cases Grow

By Shakir Husain NEW DELHI, April 6 (Bernama) -- The Delhi government on Tuesday imposed a curfew in the city from 10 pm to 5 am until April 30 amid rising coronavirus infections. Delhi is one of the places where daily Covid-19 cases have shown a steep rise. The national capital reported 3,548 cases in a 24-hour period, according to Indian Healthy Ministry data on Tuesday morning. Authorities in the city of 20 million hope restricting people's movement at night would slow down the new Covid-19 wave. Delhi has 14,589 active cases and 3,090 containment zones, according to local media. Maharashtra, India's worst-hit state, on Sunday announced tough restrictions on public gatherings, a night curfew and a lockdown on weekends. The state accounted for 47,288 of India’s 96,982 fresh daily cases. -- BERNAMA
