Muslims In Thailand Start Fasting Tuesday

BANGKOK, April 13 (Bernama) -- Muslims in Thailand will start fasting Tuesday, says Thailand’s Sheikhul Islam Office Monday. In a statement, the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, Aziz Pitakkumpol announced the date for the commencement of fasting on April 13. The announcement was also made on television and radio stations. Thailand’s Sheikhul Islam Office fixed today as the date of moon-watching in Bukit Parik, Jaha district, Yala Province, southern Thailand. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan o-cha conveyed Ramadan greetings to all Muslim in Thailand. He urged all Muslims to exercise mindfulness and perseverance during the holy month. “The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may be an obstacle to performing the religious ritual but it would also be a good opportunity for Thai Muslims to enhance mental strength and purity with strong faith, which would engender sustainable peace in the community, society, and the nation,” he said in a statement. He added that Thai Muslims were given the chance to perform their religious ritual, and to express their respect and faith with strong will and forbearance in fasting, refraining from bad deeds of all kinds, and treating others with kindness and non-violence, all of which are key fundamentals for pureness of the mind. -- BERNAMA
