Muslims In Thailand Celebrate Eid-Ul Fitr On Thursday
By Tuwaedaniya Meringing
BANGKOK, May 12 (Bernama) -- Muslims in Thailand will be celebrating Eid-ul Fitr on this Thursday, announced President of the central Islamic council of Thailand, Aziz Phitakkumpon.
“It is confirmed that there was no sighting of the new moon. Therefore, 1st Syawal falls on Thursday 13 May,” he said in the announcement broadcast life by the local television stations last night.
The majority of Muslims in Thailand reside in the southern provinces - Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla - and they will be celebrating Eid-ul Fitr under the new normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eid-ul Fitr prayers are not allowed in the three provinces – Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat - with rigorous health guidelines issued on celebration activities.
In Songkhla pula, Muslims are allowed to conduct the prayers at mosques located in areas free from the pandemic.
Last night, neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia also anounced Muslims in both nations will be celebrating Eid-ul Fitr this Thursday.
