THREE W SUMATRA CULTURAL SITES TO BE RESTORED THIS YEAR

Padang, Indonesia, May 8 (ANTARA) - The Batusangkar
Archaeological Service (BP3) in West Sumatra province is this year prioritizing the restoration of three local cultural sites, a spokesman said.

The three cultural sites were the "Candi (Shrine) Pulau Sawah" in Dharmasraya district, "Masjid (mosque) 60 Kurang Aso" in Nagari Pasir Talang in Solok Selatan district, and the Van Der Capellen fortress which was built in the Dutch colonial era, BPs head Fitria Arda said here Saturday.

The costs of restoring the three sites totaled Rp90 million which would be obtained from the state budget, Arda said.

Actually there were many archaeological remains that needed to be restored in the region but the funds available for restoration work were limited, Arda said, adding that the BP3's working area comprised three provinces, namely West Sumatra, Riau and Riau Islands.

The BP3 had called on the regional administrations to participate in efforts to preserve the archaeological remains without first asking how much the restored remains would contribute to their revenues.***
