SPLIT IN GOLKAR`S GORONTALO CHAPTER WIDENS
Gorontalo, Indonesia, May 9 (ANTARA) - A split in the Golkar Party in Gorontalo has widened following a statement issued by the party's provincial chapter supporting the call by the Gorontalo city branch for the dismissal of Fadel Mohammad as the regional chapter's chief.
Deputy chairman of Golkar Party's provincial chapter, Ishak Liputo, said his side was ready to find a replacement for Fadel if he was fired by the party's central executive board.
"If that is what the Gorntalo city branch wants and it is approved by the central executive board, what can we do. Certainly we will accept it, if a decision to that effect is made," Ishak said.
Although he did not openly support the Gotontalo city branch's stance, Ishak admitted that Fadel had committed a violation by not supporting party chairman Jusuf Kalla's nominaion for the presidency.
The Gorontalo city chapter had asked the central executive board to immediately dismiss Fadel Mohammad as chairman of the party's Gorontalo regional chapter.
"Fadel has clearly destroyed and defied the decision of the party's national leadership meeting and can no longer be expected to participate in the efforts to support Jusuf Kalla to win the presidential election," Gorontalo city chapter chief Adhan Dambea, said at a press conference at Hotel Quality here on Thursday.
In response to the Gorontalo city branch's call, Fadel said though he felt he had been ill-treated, he appreciated the Gorontalo city branch's stance.
"In politics differences are common. Therefore, I appreciate the Gorontalo city branch's stance," he said.
Although the Gorontalo city branch had already sent a letter to Jusuf Kalla regarding its request, Fadel said, he was not afraid of what it would lead to.
He said he had the right to name himself as a vice presidential candidate and the central executive board had allowed it.
With regard to the presidential elections, he said he would ask for permission from the central executive board like what happened in the past presidential election in 2004. ***
