KALLA PROUD HANURA NOT `MESSED UP`

Jakarta, May 9 (ANTARA) - Golkar Party general chairman Jusuf Kalla said here on Saturday he was proud the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) had not been "messed up" like other parties.

"I am proud with Hanura because unlike other parties it was not messed up. Maybe they are afraid of its chief who is a former military commander," he said at the third Hanura national leadership meeting. Kalla did not tell who had messed up the political parties.

On the occasion Kalla described his duet with Wiranto, Hanura's chief, for the country's next presidential election on July 8, 2009 as combination of quick and strict leadership.

"God willing with the combination the nation will be far better," he said.

Kalla said what Indonesia needed now was strong leadership which was supported by the parliament and also honest and willful as well as swift and stern.

"Wiranto is a former military who has sternness and I am a civilian who also has the same quality," he said, adding people needed firm leaders.

"I think we have already proven it by without hesitation declaring the Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto (JK-Win) ticket while others are still undecided with regard to who they would pair up with and when they would declare it," he said drawing an applause from attendees.

Kalla said that as soon as hope was seen decision was immediately taken without hesitation.

He said what a president and vice president needed was harmonious and complementary relationship and cooperation. He said the JK-Win ticket was the right pair.

"I am civilian and Wiranto a former military. I am from outside Java and Wiranto from Java. Technical matters could be discussed later," he said.

Kalla said the Indonesian people want the country to be quicker and better. "I am convinced "the quicker the better" is what the nation wants, based on conscience. No one wants to wait. Waiting is boring," he said.***
