DEMOCRATIC PARTY`S PRESIDENTIAL TICKET TO BE ANNOUNCED IN BANDUNG
Yogyakarta, Indonesia, May 9 (ANTARA) - The Democratic Party will declare its presidential and vice presidential ticket in Bandung but the date for it has been changed from May 11 to May 15.
Party executive Andi Mallarangeng said here on Saturday there was no political reason behind the change in the date of the declaration.
"It has nothing to do with political lobbying with any party but it was made solely because the President would prioritize state duties," he said.
Andi said President Yudhoyono, who is the party's candidate for the presidential election on July 8, had chosen to prioritize the World Ocean Summit 2009 event that would be held in Manado, North Sulawesi, on May 13-15.
"The event which will be attended by several heads of state certainly will require preparations and therefore the declaration of the party's presidential and vice presidential ticket is put off until May 15," he said.
Andi said Yudhoyono as chief patron of the Democratic Party would announce the party's presidential and vice presidential candidates by himself.
He said Bandung had been chosen to be the venue for the declaration was because the city was historic and therefore inspirational with regard to decisive events. "We all know the historic independence struggle in Bandung that boosted nationalistic spirit," he said.
Andi said the party had also chosen the city because Bandung was also a historic place for Yudhoyono. "Half of Yudhoyono's military career was built in Bandung. While being a soldier he was a lecturer in Bandung when he was young. His two sons were all born in Bandung and therefore the choice was right," he said.
The declaration of Yudhoyono and Jusuf Kalla ticket for the presidential election in 2004 was done in Surabaya, East Java.
Unless it is changed the declaration of the Democratic Party's presidential and vice presidential candidates in Bandung would be held at the Ganesha Cultural Center, belonging to state Bandung Institute of Technology whose alumni association's chairmanship is now held by Hatta Rajasa, minister/state secretary, touted to be the candidate for Yudhoyono's running mate.***
