NORTH MALUKU TO PROMOTE TOURISM POTENTIALS DURING WOC
Ternate, Indonesia, May 9 (ANTARA) - The North Maluku provincial administration will promote its tourism potentials during the World Ocean Conference (WOC) in Manado, North Sulawesi, May 11-15.
The international event to be attended by a few thousand participants from tens of countries would be the right place to promote North Maluku's tourism, including its marine life and historical sites, Arifin Umasangaji, head of the Ternate tourism office, said here on Saturday.
Ternate had a number of beautiful beaches and historical sites such as former Portuguese and Dutch fortresses, he said.
Ternate Mayor Syamsir Adili would be the only city mayor in Indonesia to speak in the WOC, he said.
Mayor Adili was invited to speak in the conference because Ternate was considered successful in developing itself into a coastal city for business, administrative and residential purposes.
Meanwhile, Abu Bakar, a spokesman of the North Maluku provincial administration, said the province would have two stands at en exhibition during WOC to display its tourism potentials.
North Maluku wished to attract investors to help develop its tourism industry, he said.
Manado will also host an International Symposium on Ocean Science, Technology and Policy, on May 12-14, a Global Ocean Policy Day on May 13, and an International Ocean Science, Technology and Industry Exhibition, May 11-15, coinciding with the WOC. ***
