Malaysia Airlines Expands IATA Travel Pass Trial To Tokyo, Melbourne Routes

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines is extending and expanding its trial of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Pass to include passengers on flights out of Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo-Narita and Melbourne. Malaysia Airlines was among the first global airlines to conduct a trial of the IATA Travel Pass -- a mobile phone application (app) for health verification digitally, leading the way towards the resumption of global travel, it said. In a statement Thursday, the Malaysian national airline said in addition to iOS users, passengers using Android devices will also be able to use the app, making it among the first airlines in the world to trial the Android version of the IATA Travel Pass. “Having completed the first trial on its Kuala-Lumpur-London (KUL-LHR) route on April 29, 2021, the upcoming trial will continue on May 30, 2021 on MH129 on the Kuala Lumpur-Melbourne route, with the rest of the scheduled flights to follow suit,” it said. By consolidating all the information passengers need to travel, including their PCR test results and vaccination status in one simple, easy-to-navigate application, the IATA Travel Pass aims to be the key to the resumption of international travels safely and securely. Malaysia Airlines group chief marketing and customer experience officer, Lau Yin May said the extension of the IATA Travel Pass pilot trial will provide the airline with insights on ways to ensure a smooth travel experience for passengers. “The airline continues to be committed to ensuring that it remains at the forefront of the industry’s push to reopen international travel,” Lau said.
